When to apply for a Sports Journalism Internship

Getting an internship is one of the most important things a student can do to help them land a journalism job.

If you choose the right sports journalism internship you get a real authentic "taste" of what it is like to work in the business.  You will be hands on, meet great people and possibly land a job if you make a good impression.

To get that great internship though you have to be on the ball.  Waiting until the last minute will limit your opportunities and not allow you to at least be in the running for the best sports journalism internships.

Some summer journalism internships have a deadline of November of the prior year.  So if you just start thinking about a journalism internship for the summer when the New Year begins you have already eliminated several options.

At the beginning of the first semester of your sophomore year is when you should start doing research about summer internships.  This will give you an idea of when the deadlines are and what is required to apply for different sports journalism internships.

I recommend multiple internships to get as much experience as possible.

There is so much you need to know about internships including how to select the right one and what to do when you are at your internship. I will cover those in my upcoming posts.
